Counterbalance Lofts

Having three double height floors with mezzanines, this mixed-use project was conceived as a reincarnation of a 19th century loft converted industrial building. With retail at the street, two residential units on the middle floor and a pent-house above, the building provides a lot of program into a narrow 30-foot lot. All residences face the street with a sixteen foot window wall, allowing daylight and sunshine to penetrate deep into the mezzanine-divided interiors. Open planning, structural expression, high ceilings and basic low-tech materials heighten the loft feeling of the residences.
